about

Marshalling Yard were formed as a conceptual studio project (although two live shows belie that statement) from 2013.
Bass player Dan Sullivan had a small recording studio central to the Melbourne music venue strip Johnston St.
So, in a fit of making a creative statement that wasn't focused on live performance it was decided to meet at the studio when possible (usually 5pm) with the concept of writing and recording a song in 5 hours.
James had his dictaphone and notebooks with musical and lyrical ideas.
An hour was spent knocking together an arrangement then press record.
Marshalling Yard are the sound of hastily arranged ideas in a relaxed safe environment, you can hear the joy, the humour, the beer and pot.
The lyrics sound fantastical but in fact are very real.
An acquaintance offers you his wife to sleep with while you are on acid (He Ain't Gonna Mind)
Spencer P Jones never shows up for the session as special guest guitarist but keeps texting he is on his way in a car with all the excuses as to why he's not there yet(Wolf Track Weaver)
Recording on a Summers night with the mercury sitting on 35 degrees(Sitting On The 35).
Over a few months the songs started mount up, i've left a few off for various reasons , but this is the sort of album or artistic statement we wanted to make.
Hope you enjoy it.
